It was a pleasant place to stay, the rooms have individual thermos stats and 2 bunk beds to choose from. Fleece blankets and sheets are available. Along with a fridge and various other amenities. It is a 5-10 minute walk to what seems to be the only Mall open on a Sunday. It's roughly the same distance to a bus stop and if you have any questions about the area they have spread catalogues about new brunswick and the bus routes in the lounge. There is a locker should you feel the need to lock away your valuables (you will need a lock however). Although, I didn't feel the need to as I had the room to myself during my stay and after a 50 hour flight I was greatful that she stayed up till 3am for me to check in.

So my review... without bias for the good of the customers.

The location of this place is excellent - so close to downtown (or uptown as they call it in Saint John) and a stone's throw from where maritime bus drops off. The proprietor is super nice and has a ton of information to share about Saint John and New Brunswick.. just ask! There are maps and city guides available, and be sure to ask for the self-guided walking tour brochure (all 3 are excellent). The property is currently under construction but I stayed in a lovely little apartment that was all finished and very cosy. I would definitely stay here again.

Stayed a couple of nights here while relocating to Saint John in the beginning of July, 2017. The host was very accommodating and knowledgeable of Saint John history and attractions. Plenty of tourism material to read. The other guests were very nice, mature, quiet and respected my space and possessions. This was a great first place to stay while I got my barrings. I will forever be grateful for their hospitality.

My 1 star review is based solely on the rude correspondence I had with the owner of the hostel, and not in my stay there, as the correspondence was enough to cause me to cancel my reservation.

I booked the hostel well in advance due to an early flight the next morning. When I (very politely) asked about the policy for late check-in, I received a very rude response advising me that late check-in is not possible. I wasn't upset by the lack of late check-in, as I fully understand that not all hostels can easily accommodate this. Rather, I was upset with how rude the owner was when communicating with me.

So I clearly had a misunderstanding with the owner of this establishment. I seemed to have left her with sour feelings.

I recommend this place to anyone who steps into Saint John for the first time. It's a great way to see the area without blowing your budget.
